Troqueer Church
There are a great many impressive monuments in the old section of this graveyard and the monument shown in the inset is just one of them.  It commemorates the life of William McDowall, 1815 -- 1888, a much celebrated local historian and journalist.   He  was editor of the Dumfries and Galloway Standard, the local newspaper, from 1846 until his death.  McDowall's  main literary work was undoubtedly his definitive study of the local history of Dumfriesshire
Monuments commemorating Norwegian military personal are located in the new section of this graveyard.  During World War II Dumfries was host to the Norwegian High Command in exile.
