Crocketford
Crocketford was once called Nine Mile Bar, an odd name but for the white building shown above.
The house, now a private dwelling, was once a tollhouse situated nine miles from Dumfries on
the Turnpike Road to Castle Douglas.  The road is now the A75 trunk road leading to Stranraer.
As far as I can determine there is no River Crocket and no ford over even the smallest of burns.
This T junction connects with small villages like Corsock and Balmaclellan and is an alternative route to Ayr
which joins the main road north at Ken Bridge near New Galloway and St. John's Town of Dalry
Creetown
